Friday Teardrop Photo

Last Thanksgiving the Sunflower spent the night in the snowy forest of Sierra Hot Springs. Her owners went off to enjoy an amazing dinner and a dip in the steaming springs. She had to stay in the campground.

  1. Well, I hope you left the heat on for her!

Speaking of heat, you did post once that you have a 12-volt heater that you use. With all that snow I assume you used it. Does it put out heat all night long? Do you have any other heat source like a catalytic heater that you use?

    1. LOL! The cold doesn't seem to bother her. :-)

Yes, we use both a 12-volt heater and a 12-volt electric blanket when camping in colder weather. The blanket only stays on for 45 minutes, but that's enough to warm the bed up before we fall asleep. We only use the 12 volt heater for about 10 minutes to warm up the air in the trailer. It really sucks down the battery power and we rarely are connected to campground power.

For cold weather, our favorite thing is a feather comforter. It keeps us warmer than any of the heaters.

  2. Hi , Thank you for your blog! we just stayed at the sierraville hot springs right before thanksgiving with our new 5x9 Merlin American teardrop after picking it up in Auburn on our way up to Seattle. It wasn't snowing but it was cold! I used a little buddy heater for about five
minutes to warm it up before we got in. And then with down comforter and flannel sheets we were fine. You must have a large enough Battery to
power a 12v heater-i'll have to scour your previous posts to see what kind of a system you have. Thanks again Robin

    1. Wonderful! The Merlin looks like a nice, roomy teardrop. Yes, it can get really cold up there, but the Little Buddy works great. We have a single deep cycle battery, but we don't run the heater all night. Just for a few minutes to warm up the interior. We also sleep in our clothes with a down comforter as well. Have fun with your new camper!
