A local couple with a Jeep with a nearly matching paint color fell in love with her and wanted to make her their new camping rig. I'm so happy that she found a home with someone who will have as much fun with her as we did.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDBa9I5nKLIbMXsMt9gPhl8_axJiAPOP6vbr5BnwJKJc2Oz85DeragcX9B8kf5XJGps-i7Ao6X7VUdK2YEz6K0Ytm7zfz8IaREx8dqsEyLlYFIuLsiBQFBmJtFyA7lVAJSAnsXJfGpPSg/s1600/teardroptrailer-newowners.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="810" data-original-width="1080" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDBa9I5nKLIbMXsMt9gPhl8_axJiAPOP6vbr5BnwJKJc2Oz85DeragcX9B8kf5XJGps-i7Ao6X7VUdK2YEz6K0Ytm7zfz8IaREx8dqsEyLlYFIuLsiBQFBmJtFyA7lVAJSAnsXJfGpPSg/s400/teardroptrailer-newowners.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I will admit I was very sad to see her go and nearly ran after the new owners as they towed her out of my driveway. However, it is time to move on and enjoy the new trailer, <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2019/10/1982-burro-fiberglass-trailer-tour-video.html">Wonky Donkey</a>. In fact, he and I are heading down to Arizona this week.<br />
<br />
<b>So, what will I miss the most about the teardrop trailer? Here's a small list of some of our best times:</b><br />
<br />
1. I'll miss waking up to a tiny compartment heated just with body heat. Yes, it's that small.<br />
2. I'll miss some of our most memorable trips. These include <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2016/08/teardrop-camping-in-glacier-national.html">Glacier National Park</a>, <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2018/05/grand-canyon-and-desert-southwest.html">Valley of Fire</a>, and <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/search?q=burning+man">Burning Man</a>.<br />
3. I'll miss how easy a teardrop trailer is to hitch up and tow as well as its lower profile.<br />
4. I'll miss its big, tough tires and the <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2015/02/nevada-teardrop-camping-desatoya-range.html">dirt roads </a>we've been down.<br />
5. I'll miss how familiar I was with her and knew where everything was.<br />
<br />
<b>What will I not miss? Here you go:</b><br />
<br />
1. I won't miss having to skip camping because of <a href="https://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2016/09/friday-teardrop-photo.html">high winds or storms</a>. In windy areas, teardrop trailers don't do as well.<br />
2. I won't miss always getting stopped at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants for a quick tour.<br />
3. I won't miss having to pay for two trailer registrations.<br />
4. I won't miss only being able to cook outside. While I love cooking outside, it is nice to have a protected area to cook up some quick soup or eggs.<br />
5. I won't miss having to back up a tiny trailer that really loves to jacknife.tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736805201700186470.post-60615522339666117312019-11-21T10:40:00.000-08:002019-11-21T10:40:33.997-08:00The Sunflower Is For SaleI have decided to sell my <a href="https://reno.craigslist.org/rvs/d/washoe-valley-yellow-teardrop-trailer/7022746263.html">Tiny Yellow Teardrop</a>. This is a sad day for me, but I have enjoyed my teardrop trailer for way over a decade and have had some amazing times in it. It has also been the star of this little blog and a great way to meet other teardroppers on the road and around the world.<br />

We have been camping in Sunflower, the teardrop trailer, for more than 10 years and while it has been so great for us, we were looking for a trailer we could stand up inside and cook inside out of the weather. During some of our teardrop trailer trips, we have experienced desert wind, thunderstorms, pouring rain, and even snow. While it doesn’t stop us from camping, it has either cut some trips short or has made them more difficult than usual.</div>

The Burro (named <a href="https://youtu.be/sMGdYH7CkKo">Wonky Donkey</a> for its not so straight lines), is a 1,100 lb. fiberglass trailer from 1982. We spent about six months fixing it up and turning into a basic, but comfortable camper for weekend or week-long trips. </div>

It has a deep-cycle battery that runs our lights and a two burner stove that runs off propane. We also have a 10 gallon water tank with a pump faucet and sink, but no shower or toilet. When we first stepped inside the Burro, we were amazed at how much headroom the tiny trailer had. With its raised trolley roof, the interior has at least 6’2” of headroom in the middle of the trailer. With its less than 13-foot interior space, we can actually move around each other (within reason), change clothes, cook, eat, make the bed, and other chores that can be more challenging in the teardrop.</div>

With just a few Burro trips under our belts, we have cooked both inside and outside the camper. Having that choice is so nice when the temperature drops, the wind picks up, or we just don’t feel like going outside in our pajamas to make coffee. The interior stove is not as powerful as our Coleman, but it does heat up the Burro quickly on a cold morning.</div>

<b>No insulation</b></div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
Because the lightweight Burro is made of two thin pieces of fiberglass, it has no insulation, so it gets darn cold inside in the early morning. We have been experimenting with various blankets and <a href="http://www.doityourselfrv.com/cupid-heater/">some heaters</a> so this is still a work in progress. However, this can also be a pro since as soon as the sun hits the Burro, it warms up very quickly on a cold morning.</div>

<b>Takes a little longer to set up and take down camp</b></div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
We are teardrop trailer professionals and can pack up for a trip or pack up camp very quickly. There is a bit of a learning curve with a larger trailer and it takes us a little longer with the Burro. For example, we need to fill up the water tank before taking off, and pack outdoor items away inside the under seat storage area in the correct order.</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<b>We are not used to an actual door</b></div>
<div class="p1">

<div class="p1">
With the teardrop we have gotten used to ducking our heads while getting in and out of the doorways. Now we have to get used to stepping up and down out of the Burro. I think the Wonky Donkey has a bit of a lift on the axle, so the step down is taller than most fiberglass campers. While carrying out pots, pans, and ingredients for outdoor cooking, we have to be sure to watch our step and not get frustrated with the constant in and out, in and out.<br />

However, we have also been spending our time fixing up our latest project. Late last summer we snagged a 13-foot <a href="https://tincantourists.com/wiki/burro-rv/">Burro fiberglass trailer</a> on Craigslist. While we love teardrop camping, for several years now we have been looking for a camper where we can cook and sit inside when the weather turns foul.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBCYBYPr8vlU4A0uKB9owTp4Qd0QcqjGIwOTa2S2ObpIzXU1lioFO6iI6b_DnWGnKFrtVjek6m8sk3zPrzb4B0ITUgSuVnDs8gjUpAU-olm-u9FDz7n9X_8ty9mprEMdGRiTq9OaN5w7o/s1600/teardop-burrotrailer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="825" data-original-width="1100" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBCYBYPr8vlU4A0uKB9owTp4Qd0QcqjGIwOTa2S2ObpIzXU1lioFO6iI6b_DnWGnKFrtVjek6m8sk3zPrzb4B0ITUgSuVnDs8gjUpAU-olm-u9FDz7n9X_8ty9mprEMdGRiTq9OaN5w7o/s400/teardop-burrotrailer.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We looked at everything from the original Dutchman T@B to the <a href="https://www.intechrv.com/luna.php">inTech Luna</a>, but nothing really spoke to us. We didn't want a bathroom or shower and we didn't need all the amenities, such as a microwave, offered in some newer small campers. I'd been keeping my eye on small fiberglass campers such as the Casita and Scamp for years, but as most of you know, these get snapped up very quickly.<br />

<br />
I happened upon the Burro the day it was posted on Craigslist and we took it home that evening. It was built in 1982 and nothing had really been done with it since that year. It was actually in really good shape, but needed some TLC. We appreciate the over 6-feet headroom and the tiny kitchen. We named him <strike>el Burrito</strike> Wonky Donkey and he has <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elburritotheburro/">his own Instagram page</a>.<br />
<br />
Stay tuned for an upcoming <a href="http://felinedesigninc.com/burro/">full tour</a> of Wonky Donkey soon.<br />

Highway 120 on the way to Benton (from beautiful <a href="https://www.monolake.org/">Mono Lake</a>) is an excellent highway for towing. It's free of any traffic, has some great boondocking spots, and a few roller coaster ride hills.<br />

<br />
One day was spent attempting to hike to the top of the tallest mountain in Nevada—<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boundary_Peak_(Nevada)">Boundary Peak</a>. At 13,147 feet, it is actually more difficult to get to than many tall peaks in the area. You first have to drive an old dirt mining road up several thousand feet just to reach the trailhead. The steep trail then goes up to about 10,500 feet before it reaches a tallus field. This tallus field is where I had to bail out. With one step forward, I would slip about three feet back. My friends continued on, but also had to quit the hike when the trail got too sketchy and dangerous. Maybe that's why the mountain only has a few hundred visitors a year, and a small fraction of them ever reach the top.<br />

My husband and I finally realized that we would always be yelling back and forth between campground showers as to who had the soap, toothpaste, bath scrubby, etc. So, I decided to get us each our own his and hers dopp kits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg6JbVKpp7T2Y1rXlvueaCGTZrY7vmlseCtgXUas5Wg5lUnnEpwYn_Cx2vxbau1_Yy02d7QTG8FCJkqYxEvRPBRw17TWQL70ycgdB0O2hbIygnGRYwC5QmhDPjczlTsrkOz8v6HkMQboE/s1600/teardrop-toiletry-kits2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg6JbVKpp7T2Y1rXlvueaCGTZrY7vmlseCtgXUas5Wg5lUnnEpwYn_Cx2vxbau1_Yy02d7QTG8FCJkqYxEvRPBRw17TWQL70ycgdB0O2hbIygnGRYwC5QmhDPjczlTsrkOz8v6HkMQboE/s400/teardrop-toiletry-kits2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The blue and pink color coding has nothing to with our gender, but I just happen to like hot pink (matches my camping jacket) and he likes blue. I picked up two soft-sided toiletry bags from Amazon that fit perfectly on top of each other inside our <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2013/05/teardrop-trailer-spring-cleaning.html">clothes cabinet</a>. The brand is Yeiotsy, but I don't think this particular type is available anymore. You can pick up <a href="https://amzn.to/2LS9jlq">something similar</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrJ7mmBtRgzakeWqftukTYnppPOXKYg5SF5UaWamYqp5Brv5r64Lt-NKWLXLHsR8iKcOuqpr1CSZ2HBfUF8jQVWFWkCgx3WKK7t3b2j3hhEH9JJYVI6fSvHlkBRKEWK_6pRqvblOSiHaE/s1600/teardrop-toiletry-kits3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrJ7mmBtRgzakeWqftukTYnppPOXKYg5SF5UaWamYqp5Brv5r64Lt-NKWLXLHsR8iKcOuqpr1CSZ2HBfUF8jQVWFWkCgx3WKK7t3b2j3hhEH9JJYVI6fSvHlkBRKEWK_6pRqvblOSiHaE/s400/teardrop-toiletry-kits3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to getting new kits, we got rid of our traditional towels and went with l<a href="https://amzn.to/2LPGne5">ightweight sports towels</a> which dry a lot quicker. They are also color coded to match the kits...of course. :-) The kits fit a variety of toiletries, a bath scrubby, and first aid supplies. The towels are so small that they also fit inside each kit.<br />

Forest camping, kayaking, swimming, and sitting around the campfire were the only plans—until the smoke from the <a href="http://time.com/5353749/california-fire-map-2018/">northern California fires</a> started to encroach the area. Strength and blessings to the firefighters and residents affected by the fires.<br />

Our primary goal on this particular trip was a motorized river rafting trip down the Colorado River through the upper portion of the Grand Canyon. For certain this is an item on many bucket lists, so were were so excited to finally do it. We booked a four-day trip with <a href="http://www.hatchriverexpeditions.com/grand-canyon-motorized-rafting-expeditions/four-day-upper-grand-canyon">Hatch River Expeditions</a> out of Marble Canyon, Arizona with a hike out of the canyon on the infamous Bright Angel trail up to the South Rim of the canyon.<br />

<br />
Our trip began with a drive down the <a href="https://travelnevada.com/adventures/32917/et-highway">Extraterrestrial Highway</a> and a few nights in <a href="http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire">Valley of Fire State Park</a> near Las Vegas. The oldest and largest state park in Nevada is a gem. Full of red sandstone, petroglyphs, great hiking and storm skies, this place is now one of my favorite places to camp. The teardrop attracted a lot of attention from the primarily European RVers traveling through the American Southwest.<br />

When we arrived in northern Arizona (through a snowstorm near the North Rim), we were able to park the teardrop and our vehicle near the river raft headquarters and then we started on our adventure. The trip consisted of two large rafts, three guides, about 20 passengers, camping on riverside beaches, delicious food, and freezing cold rapids. It was a blast and recommended for anyone who loves the the outdoors and doesn't mind roughing it a bit.<br />

The hike out of the Grand Canyon is not for beginners. We were happy we had already <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2014/09/the-sunflower-and-stargazers-hike-mount.html">backpacked Mount Whitney</a> because the <a href="https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/bright-angel-trail-to-bright-angel-campground-and-river-trail">Bright Angel Trail</a> is hot and a lot tougher than we thought it would be. While the hike was just over eight miles and very beautiful, the steep terrain and log steps made the relatively short hike take a long time. We started at 5:30 in the morning and got to the top at around 1:00 pm. I drank over six liters of water—incredible since the temperature never got over 70 degrees.<br />

On our trip back home we stopped at another bucket list location: <a href="http://parks.nv.gov/parks/cathedral-gorge">Cathedral Gorge State Park</a>. This odd and haunting place in Nevada near the Utah border has eerie formations created from erosion eating away at bentonite clay pillars. Several of these formations create narrow caves that you can explore. The farther you go in, the cooler it gets since the desert sun can't penetrate the interior.<br />

It turns out that a stock photo my husband took of <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2015/02/nevada-teardrop-camping-desatoya-range.html">us camping in the Desatoya mountain</a>s of Nevada was used as the main photo in an article on adventure camping. A nice surprise to go with my coffee.<br />

The article was originally posted in the <i>Statesman-Review</i> of Spokane, Wash. and has been picked up by other AP newspapers, including the <i><a href="http://www.rgj.com/">Reno Gazette-Journal</a></i>. The article discusses the popularity of RV growth among younger people and their desires for more adventurous camping. A teardrop is great for that, kids!<br />

<br />
I recently returned from San Diego, Calif. where I visited <a href="http://littleguytrailers.com/" target="_blank">Little Guy Trailers</a>. This company focuses on campers and trailers less than 2,800 lb. and has their own camper design—the <a href="http://littleguytrailers.com/meerkat/">MeerKat.</a> The company has a wide range of tiny campers and trailers to choose from, all in one place. They include the nüCamp RV T@B and T@G, Little Guy teardrop trailers like the MyPod and the Silver Shadow, Serro Scotty trailers, and the new Ascape by Aliner. Little Guy Trailers also has the beautiful <a href="https://tab.nucamprv.com/tab-teardrop-camper/">T@B 400</a>.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
What's so great about this company is that you can get a better idea about which tiny camper works for you. Sometimes photos and videos don't do the space or amenities any justice and you need to visit each trailer individually and compare. The staff are more than happy to offer you tours of each type of trailer and give you the pros and cons of each.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpGfvKLGVnwuV-dkRXNprm88U_6ov0wJUyqF3XWQrS_qg6X-TOF0M0-_7TE9BKqcsSqAJaLXfM9-NSLiWrq6zFJluHoeQuZTsCpWk64MWBpa3Po3PRe3gagyT-3p9lepeq-YVFyIAnZRs/s1600/meerkat-camper.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpGfvKLGVnwuV-dkRXNprm88U_6ov0wJUyqF3XWQrS_qg6X-TOF0M0-_7TE9BKqcsSqAJaLXfM9-NSLiWrq6zFJluHoeQuZTsCpWk64MWBpa3Po3PRe3gagyT-3p9lepeq-YVFyIAnZRs/s400/meerkat-camper.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Little Guy Trailer's own MeerKat could be a nice alternative to a teardrop trailer. The 900 lb. camper has a popup canvas roof, dinette that converts into a bed, cabinets and a basic kitchen. The kitchen is meant to be more for camping than RVing and features a one-burner propane stove and a sink with a pump that works with any container you want to use.<br />

What started out as a fun project for a Craigslist sale quickly turned into a full-time family-run business.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Rustic Trail has several teardrop models—including a standy model with a tiny inside kitchen. The original 900 lb. <a href="https://www.rustictrailteardrops.com/papa-bear" target="_blank">Papa Bear</a> teardrop comes in a base and standard model, the <a href="https://www.rustictrailteardrops.com/grizzly-bear" target="_blank">Grizzly Bear</a> is larger with also with a base and standard model, and the <a href="https://www.rustictrailteardrops.com/polar-bear" target="_blank">Polar Bear</a> is a 1,365 lb. lightweight standy. They are each built on a heavy duty metal frame with 14 inch aluminum wheels. The base models of each camper are completely finished outside but don’t include cabinets, beds or dinettes inside. The standard models do include solid birch cabinets, elevated beds and folding mattresses and lots of storage. The teardrops range from $4,700 to $7,875 and come in a variety of exterior and interior colors.<br />

Rustic Trail also has affordable add-on features including an outside sink ($75), spare tire ($150), Thetford portable toilet ($175) and a front AC unit ($400).<br />

<br />
<b>What are some unique aspects of your teardrop designs?</b><br />
<br />
We do not offer a rear galley. Instead we offer a walk in camper (Polar Bear) with a bench and settee that transforms into a queen size bed. We also include cabinets and lots of storage.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>What do your customers look for in a teardrop trailer? What basic features or add on features are requested the most?</b><br />
<br />
Affordability, quality and accessibility. Our most asked for added feature is the AC and the front rack.<br />

<br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><b><br /></b><br />
<b>How did you come up with the Polar Bear design? What’s the reaction to the standy design?</b><br />
<br />
The Polar Bear was a design for those that want to stand up. We have several customers that are well over six feet tall and several with back issues that find this camper exactly what they need. We have taken comments and ideas from our customers and introduced them to our line. Most people are surprised at the room the Polar Bear gives and it being so lightweight as well.<br />

<br />
<b>Do you camp in a teardrop? If so, where do you like to go?</b><br />
<br />
We do camp. We have tried all three campers and love them all. Our favorite place to camp is the Outer Banks of North Carolina near Buxton. Being so busy we have not had the opportunity to camp very much. Our entire family works at RTTC. They have learned so much that we feel confident in letting them handle the shop. Our hopes for 2018 is to take the camper out and advertise a little more.<br />

<b>Someone is coming to Pilot Mountain, North Carolina to go camping. Where should they go?</b><br />
<br />
Anyone wanting to camp in our area has several state parks and private owned campgrounds to choose from. About 20 miles north you have the Blue Ridge Parkway which is our favorite. The parkway offers many state parks.<br />

Video bloggers, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8Zs6tYp7f4" target="_blank">Phil and Vanessa</a> live full time out of their Honda Element and use their <a href="http://www.saratogajacks.com/" target="_blank">Saratoga Jacks</a> thermal cooker to make meals on the road without having to plug anything into a socket.<br />

The way a <a href="https://delishably.com/cooking-equipment/Thermal-Cooker" target="_blank">thermal cooker works</a> is by using thermal mass to slowly cook food that has already been brought to a boil. A thermal cooker is essential two pots: one is a thick bottom pot that holds the food and is placed on the fuel source such as a camp stove. The food is brought to a boil and then placed into the second pot, essentially a large Thermos. The food continues to cook for a few hours, providing a hot meal without having to cook something on the spot.<br />

Normally, when we are teardrop camping or on the road <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2015/04/friday-teardrop-photo_17.html" target="_blank">our lunches</a> are cold. We have sandwiches, dips, crackers, tuna, etc. I thought a thermal cooker might be a great way to enjoy a warm meal while in transit or while at the campground. We could start it in the morning and within 3-4 hours we could have lunch. Or we could start a dish in the afternoon and have a quick dinner. This could be beneficial if we are camping later in the year when it gets dark earlier or we don't want to cook outside.<br />

<br />
Last weekend, I tested a thermal cooker by <a href="http://www.qvc.com/Cooks-Essentials-2QT-Thermal-Cook-%26-Carry.product.K45098.html?productNumber=K45098&storeId=10251&catalogId=10151&partNumber=K45098&sc=K45098-MAIL&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_--_-K45098&TZ=EST" target="_blank">Cook's Essentials</a>. This was the smallest thermal cooker I could find and one I thought would fit in the teardrop trailer easily. I tested it in my home kitchen with a vegetable curry similar to Phil and Vanessa's road-worthy recipe. In the top pot provided with the Cook's Essentials system, I placed some rice and beans we already had on hand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwD1WkLbRpNCJKvkbyJfd8DWbyNwgTrruLfrZEZ__13pE21n4hU77856OC-j83xtkfRHLSr-6QIrqeVZl2FSWlvE0Gn-uu7gAliGtFxKibkrPGNLrdozPuC4ngNRnZAXFdJ4yDxqjFzU0/s1600/thermalcooker-rice.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwD1WkLbRpNCJKvkbyJfd8DWbyNwgTrruLfrZEZ__13pE21n4hU77856OC-j83xtkfRHLSr-6QIrqeVZl2FSWlvE0Gn-uu7gAliGtFxKibkrPGNLrdozPuC4ngNRnZAXFdJ4yDxqjFzU0/s400/thermalcooker-rice.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I brought the vegetables (sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots, garlic), red curry paste, coconut milk and some <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2017/09/the-5-best-condiments-to-take-on.html" target="_blank">Bragg's Liquid Aminos</a> to a boil in the inner pot on the stove. I placed the pot into the thermal cooker and went for a three hour hike in the hills. When I got back...success! I had a tender, vegetable curry that was still hot. The top pan with the rice was less warm, but all the food was cooked and retained heat for quite a while.<br />

<br />
I have yet to test this on the road. I would need to find a space in our trailer where the pot won't topple over and spill the liquid. While in camp, the pot will fit nicely in our galley until we return for a hot meal.<br />
<br />
I'm now on the lookout for a <a href="http://thermalcookerrecipes.com/" target="_blank">few good recipes</a>...tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736805201700186470.post-2771968475514483272017-09-18T08:00:00.000-07:002017-09-18T08:00:16.462-07:00The 5 best condiments to take on a camping tripWhen we go out on a teardrop camping trip, we are limited by space. Our food takes up the majority of the galley area, but we do find room to take a few items that add a little more spice to our meals. There are a few handy condiments that always make it along on every trip, and each can do double or triple duty.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Bragg's Liquid Aminos</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Y2TYccvzEaYrF3KGkcjIDK4pIPLtE1ldzY_KWcNwkJXQasboD2i8TDtzaOBOx1fmlcq9n2Y9D-O9VHpDxP9xYizujvBsRzd8bGedWUud-FiXATz1VWi7s1kKe2gUh-6RLHMvck58PJY/s1600/Braggs-LiquidAminos.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Y2TYccvzEaYrF3KGkcjIDK4pIPLtE1ldzY_KWcNwkJXQasboD2i8TDtzaOBOx1fmlcq9n2Y9D-O9VHpDxP9xYizujvBsRzd8bGedWUud-FiXATz1VWi7s1kKe2gUh-6RLHMvck58PJY/s400/Braggs-LiquidAminos.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
Rather than soy sauce, we bring a small container of Bragg's Liquid Aminos. The sauce tastes just like soy sauce, but without all the sodium. We use the aminos in everything from marinades to salad dressing to fried rice.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Cholula Hot Sauce</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwK7kvGd_UmEN6T7zq7rhMMehmjoGCx10YtCLpBCpNrxllMqF2Fuk6Sd4t_is6hJw-AMkzOUgjAOXdBcvpmG91eSAUxLGku9uARXgceAZWrUT9XMWz7Qs5_3KwH2N5AZJKo_-yY8KmPBU/s1600/cholula-hotsauce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="400" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwK7kvGd_UmEN6T7zq7rhMMehmjoGCx10YtCLpBCpNrxllMqF2Fuk6Sd4t_is6hJw-AMkzOUgjAOXdBcvpmG91eSAUxLGku9uARXgceAZWrUT9XMWz7Qs5_3KwH2N5AZJKo_-yY8KmPBU/s400/cholula-hotsauce.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
We really can't go on any camping trip without <a href="http://www.cholula.com/" target="_blank">Cholula Hot Sauce</a>. It's not overly hot and has a really nice, piquant flavor that goes great with everything from eggs and burritos to corn on the cob. We prefer the original flavor.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Kirkland Signature Imported Pesto</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpIZ0YwlcR3wUbbYpKFmgGGaXJNP375Dh5vMKuGX-c5W_rV9oi7Tgj_eKiJqP0DaauNKdqc71NSSSoqtcQV0uMjhBLRVnq1V3qiJXgMmjwIkgLUfLymIrg3dKEDswuLrmE9t2wF52Ge70/s1600/Kirkland-pesto.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="377" data-original-width="222" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpIZ0YwlcR3wUbbYpKFmgGGaXJNP375Dh5vMKuGX-c5W_rV9oi7Tgj_eKiJqP0DaauNKdqc71NSSSoqtcQV0uMjhBLRVnq1V3qiJXgMmjwIkgLUfLymIrg3dKEDswuLrmE9t2wF52Ge70/s400/Kirkland-pesto.png" width="235" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
I put pesto on everything from pasta to sandwiches. It's also great in potato salad, on wraps and even on scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, it does need to be refrigerated, so it's a condiment that we have to keep in the cooler. We bring a small container of the <a href="https://www.costcobusinessdelivery.com/Kirkland-Signature-Imported-Basil-Pesto%2C-22-oz.product.11936751.html" target="_blank">Kirkland Signature Imported Pesto</a> from Costco since the original container is too large.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Kikkoman Seasoned Rice Vinegar</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_peDpxac5S1Uow6scOnvDOH19_nTcvO82oAFZEZKeLFY3_VRfK5p5Xp5KaxsjO3RMCtszR3dUkjfcideuQnQJOdiDOaLvJaBAUG4KwVZci9PB6WeGbN44cVsaVu44adNs2MU319YNvng/s1600/kikkoman-seasonedrice-vinegar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="300" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_peDpxac5S1Uow6scOnvDOH19_nTcvO82oAFZEZKeLFY3_VRfK5p5Xp5KaxsjO3RMCtszR3dUkjfcideuQnQJOdiDOaLvJaBAUG4KwVZci9PB6WeGbN44cVsaVu44adNs2MU319YNvng/s400/kikkoman-seasonedrice-vinegar.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
You can tell we like our Asian flavors. We love to bring along a bottle of <a href="http://www.kikkomanusa.com/homecooks/products/products_hc_details.php?pf=02032" target="_blank">Kikkoman's Seasoned Rice Vinegar</a> for everything from quick pickles to salad dressing. It's also a good marinade for fish.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXQLDQaYUD2oY0HHTmMRAFnasGyS5Cw1BEuAk_rO5jWU-k4pkz6II_L8C79ckpXM0gs9AT_XKbiaLBrZuziheaXfhFDGtFX2sMa9mNQq_dgyG97zL2eC_rz6e4TEe0tclkDGmKH8ngxKU/s1600/worcestershire-sauce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="450" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXQLDQaYUD2oY0HHTmMRAFnasGyS5Cw1BEuAk_rO5jWU-k4pkz6II_L8C79ckpXM0gs9AT_XKbiaLBrZuziheaXfhFDGtFX2sMa9mNQq_dgyG97zL2eC_rz6e4TEe0tclkDGmKH8ngxKU/s320/worcestershire-sauce.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
<b><br /></b>
No camping trip is complete without burgers or steak. We like to generously dose our meat with <a href="http://www.leaperrins.com/Products/The%20Original%20Worcestershire%20Sauce" target="_blank">Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce</a>. The sauce is also another great marinade for ribs or skirt steak.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1T7f132hSYpzGAOodukY2YZ80TAHGLqN3L9iZwl5s7WvPiC0fZ1pk0W1iDYpqshnWOBDRecRSQean9GkktRy_yN-zwksy1ZkY_73qiSol0O6Eb7hGlxKG_IvQMeV1l0f8lXp3r773WHw/s1600/teardrop-jayco-camping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1T7f132hSYpzGAOodukY2YZ80TAHGLqN3L9iZwl5s7WvPiC0fZ1pk0W1iDYpqshnWOBDRecRSQean9GkktRy_yN-zwksy1ZkY_73qiSol0O6Eb7hGlxKG_IvQMeV1l0f8lXp3r773WHw/s400/teardrop-jayco-camping.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've never been a fan of manufactured, boxy campers, but I've got to say that the layout of the inside of their Jay Flight is ideal. They have more than enough room to store food and clothes for longer trips, a queen bed, a bathroom, heater, and a delightful kitchen that can be used in 60 mile an hour winds and sideways rain.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXVxd95GgadqU3_iiDqcmFaqYPO69CIxPy735I0fVph7wo-Olx5g_TqSmhOKkgALpieHTSGu1NQSZVp21uJclZZLYilMFDB836mtLNJ1RJ2SoAMOPyOtz5Cx6ycJjlXQRhYX1Zug51JBs/s1600/norcal-teardrop-camping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXVxd95GgadqU3_iiDqcmFaqYPO69CIxPy735I0fVph7wo-Olx5g_TqSmhOKkgALpieHTSGu1NQSZVp21uJclZZLYilMFDB836mtLNJ1RJ2SoAMOPyOtz5Cx6ycJjlXQRhYX1Zug51JBs/s400/norcal-teardrop-camping.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My husband and I have been in the discussion phase of what we would want to upgrade to when he retires. While we like our friends' camper, the discussion has revolved around gas mileage, cost, size and our most needed amenities. I love the Sunflower and it's ideal for long trips with great weather. It's when we get into <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2016/09/friday-teardrop-photo.html" target="_blank">bad weather</a> that we have to look at something different.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtoZmT9aKKP9wydLGuCZxsajQYT5Bb5R5dj5pP3pAP3c-na0FnwxmRf63L8T_gAYIjVmbZukRyE5-b4XZ-QbhzN0zb5ka9OKcSKr1xnUUKoX48t2qPtCX-jnfjsj0WvVldmM2_uyROchA/s1600/kayaking-norcal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtoZmT9aKKP9wydLGuCZxsajQYT5Bb5R5dj5pP3pAP3c-na0FnwxmRf63L8T_gAYIjVmbZukRyE5-b4XZ-QbhzN0zb5ka9OKcSKr1xnUUKoX48t2qPtCX-jnfjsj0WvVldmM2_uyROchA/s400/kayaking-norcal.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The thing is, we want to keep it simple. All we need is a comfortable bed, an inside kitchen, a place to store food and clothes, and maybe a table. A bathroom would be nice, but after <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2013/05/where-do-you-go-to-bathroom.html" target="_blank">years of not having one</a>, we know exactly what we need to do. However, if a future camper had one, we would use it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlm_uKEPDzN0FYgBEFFZIeqeAlPzyBMuNyq1DhullhFwINvGVQIxlhDfQKbszGkoybdUFAzXj4II6Vw-2UqgPt7THXkDwOVEK3EKFnc39-aC7ktvbTOkDQLq-cltuzGcskqtFn0J8XRAQ/s1600/norcal-waterfall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlm_uKEPDzN0FYgBEFFZIeqeAlPzyBMuNyq1DhullhFwINvGVQIxlhDfQKbszGkoybdUFAzXj4II6Vw-2UqgPt7THXkDwOVEK3EKFnc39-aC7ktvbTOkDQLq-cltuzGcskqtFn0J8XRAQ/s400/norcal-waterfall.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Finding all the items on our list is proving to be very difficult. We've looked at the <a href="https://tab.nucamprv.com/" target="_blank">T@B</a>, the <a href="http://littleguytrailers.com/meerkat/" target="_blank">MeerKat</a>, the <a href="http://www.forestriverinc.com/travel-trailers/r-pod" target="_blank">RPod</a>, the <a href="http://chaletinc.com/" target="_blank">Chalet</a>, the <a href="http://palominorv.com/product-details.aspx?LineID=373&Image=15364" target="_blank">PaloMini</a>, the <a href="https://www.scamptrailers.com/" target="_blank">Scamp</a>, and the <a href="http://www.keystonerv.com/passport-rov/" target="_blank">Passport ROV</a>. These choices are either too expensive, the bed or the storage is too small, or there is just too much...stuff. Quality seems to be an issue as well and I don't feel like getting 12 miles to the gallon hauling around items we don't need.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijFNHPRRnQiWotU2LtJW2xVLZbqOJ-i_tj2tGPug3m9TVZfAPC90gmQX9lLgrYp6La34NSlj84whp1opT_9qz5EfpVFeQYVP4A5sM1bJbtUM6yCLFOhGSs8ujLd927URzQxltUXtUolqY/s1600/norcal-deer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijFNHPRRnQiWotU2LtJW2xVLZbqOJ-i_tj2tGPug3m9TVZfAPC90gmQX9lLgrYp6La34NSlj84whp1opT_9qz5EfpVFeQYVP4A5sM1bJbtUM6yCLFOhGSs8ujLd927URzQxltUXtUolqY/s400/norcal-deer.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We are sticking with the tiny yellow teardrop for now, but will be keeping our eyes out for <a href="http://smalltrailerenthusiast.com/" target="_blank">small, efficient campers</a> to be our future road warrior. Manufacturers, keep an eye on our list.tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736805201700186470.post-50340395276377818292017-07-11T15:18:00.001-07:002017-07-11T15:18:07.755-07:00Wedding Anniversary Trip to OregonWhen my husband and I got married 15 years ago, we did not have a teardrop trailer. As big fans of tent camping, we never even considered a tiny camper until several years later. After nearly 10 years of teardrop camping, the Sunflower is still an excellent wedding anniversary (or belated honeymoon) getaway.<br />

<br />
Our latest trip was a 10 day trek to the Oregon Coast and Northern California to escape the heat of the desert interior. We took a similar trip many years ago and didn't have to book any of our campsites. Unfortunately, the number of people visiting this area has increased and campgrounds fill up very quickly. We ended up having to book sites at several <a href="http://tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com/2016/10/koa-memberships-are-they-worth-it.html" target="_blank">KOA </a>campgrounds and hope for the best.<br />

<br />
We were pleasantly surprised by a few of them. One night was spent at the KOA near Mount Shasta and one at the <a href="http://koa.com/campgrounds/grants-pass/" target="_blank">KOA in Grants Pass</a>, Oregon. The Grants Pass location actually had their own wonderful swimming holes. We'll be going back to that one.<br />

The <a href="http://koa.com/campgrounds/bandon/" target="_blank">Bandon/Port Orford KOA</a> was a quiet, tree-filled delight close to windy Cape Blanco and Bandon restaurants. It was a perfect place to enjoy the coast without getting blasted by wind or cold. We also stayed one night at the <a href="http://www.hecetalighthouse.com/" target="_blank">Heceta Head Lighthouse</a> (where we originally proposed to each other) and were lucky our tiny trailer fit down their tiny road.<br />

While the Redwood Meadows was conveniently located near the redwood hikes and Smith River swimming holes, it was packed full of larger RVs. We were a curiosity in that campground. We had visited Whaleshead before and stayed in a rental cabin that overlooked the coast. This time, our campsite was meant to be for a larger RV, but had plenty of room for us.<br />

After a four-month trip through the western U.S. and Canada in their Dutchman T@B, the couple decided to open up their own business renting out two <a href="http://golittleguy.com/" target="_blank">Little Guy teardrops</a> and two T@Bs—including their own. Dana was so nice to give us not only the inside scoop on how they started their business, but also how much they love the teardrop life.<br />

<br />
<b>How and why did you become interested in teardrop trailers and T@Bs? </b><br />
<br />
When Jay and I lived in Spokane, Washington I was working full time and he was in grad school. We wanted to get away on the weekends to go hiking but it always seemed like a hassle to pack up the car with all of our camping gear, so we looked into small travel trailers. We wanted something small enough so we didn’t just disappear into a large RV and miss out the camping experience so a teardrop seemed like a great compromise.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI3liaCZkq9hQb8TnQ0bPBAUVNy89FvyUx2fF5qK7qSHEbEf20j4sHns6MHkpoHSzQZHg-_6Vvg0Gfl4nCqVfDF-3d-1bVqrCMwd1EipIhUqXR-CJdOD1by9vJsV5n6poeFuMDXv_uRbs/s1600/ExploreMoreNorthwest-tinytrailer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="955" data-original-width="1432" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI3liaCZkq9hQb8TnQ0bPBAUVNy89FvyUx2fF5qK7qSHEbEf20j4sHns6MHkpoHSzQZHg-_6Vvg0Gfl4nCqVfDF-3d-1bVqrCMwd1EipIhUqXR-CJdOD1by9vJsV5n6poeFuMDXv_uRbs/s400/ExploreMoreNorthwest-tinytrailer.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We couldn’t have been happier with our decision to get our T@B trailer. We didn’t realize how much use it was going to get until we spent over 60 nights in it within the first year. Not only did we use it in the summer for camping, but we towed it up to ski resorts and stayed in the parking lots in the winter.<br />

We love the T@B layout because we were able to cook inside, allowing us to travel no matter what kind of weather was thrown at us. We have slept though severe lighting storms, winter blizzards, and torrential down pours. We love that no matter what the weather throws at us, we can still travel and have a comfortable night sleep!</div>
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>What are some benefits and challenges of teardrops? </b><br />
<br />
Benefits: Easy to tow, lightweight, and comfortable to sleep in. When we get away in our teardrop it’s not always about the camping experience. Sometimes our main objective is to go mountain biking, skiing or long distance running. These activities require a good night’s sleep so we can be re-charged for the next day of our trip. It is SO nice to get a good night of rest and be able to make dinner in a flash with the easy kitchen access in teardrops.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHtgr5ZKRDj7-CUcWmuKHCHzRZh36CVa2mb-f-aYix_HGO4aBrGC_fTgfCwA7-TkvP8KqobnwimhaIV12g9-GzFasFrsYXn-e5_myGKObdGaWpIJrNZlDdYgAdRlqLFTRYnsQ83L_S_6M/s1600/ExploreMoreNorthwest-tinytrailer-tow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="750" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHtgr5ZKRDj7-CUcWmuKHCHzRZh36CVa2mb-f-aYix_HGO4aBrGC_fTgfCwA7-TkvP8KqobnwimhaIV12g9-GzFasFrsYXn-e5_myGKObdGaWpIJrNZlDdYgAdRlqLFTRYnsQ83L_S_6M/s400/ExploreMoreNorthwest-tinytrailer-tow.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Challenges: I never had any towing experience before our first teardrop so it was a little intimidating to learn how to hook up and back up a trailer for the first time. I was surprised how quickly I learned and how easy it really was to operate a teardrop.<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>How did you get started in the rental business? </b><br />
<br />
Jay and I found ourselves at a juncture in life where he had the option to take some time off from work for a couple of months. We decided to hit the open road and travel out of our 2008 Dutchman T@B for four months. We had no itinerary or plan so we were able to make decisions on a whim and live each day in the moment. It was incredibly easy to travel this way with the simplicity of our teardrop.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When we finished our trip in our hometown (Kennewick, Washington) we realized we wanted to share this experience with the local community and give them quick access to the outdoors. We are incredibly passionate about being in the outdoors and how it can bring a sense of peace to those that live a stressful life. It’s important to unwind, disconnect and recharge in nature every now and then and we hope that renting out teardrops will grant our customers a quick escape into nature.<br />

A shakedown trip is an opportunity to get all your camping mistakes out of the way. Having the teardrop trailer tucked away for the winter will make you a little rusty in the camping department—not matter how long you've been camping. During this trip we realized what we are missing, what needs repairing and what supplies we need to stock up on.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNN7D3WXtSBTJ0bXUfGhrExxXqwoBPmzTuqKcUei72bFCaE-Eo03bX6Bz2MwVz4SIT_Yq7xrqEHxpjTgA4G5AeI2zBIXPDqm_1Og6U1pEePgXU-XIvJtsE2pbkQ8hsJ2PYccOKjbkFSYE/s1600/teardrop-trip-Nevada4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNN7D3WXtSBTJ0bXUfGhrExxXqwoBPmzTuqKcUei72bFCaE-Eo03bX6Bz2MwVz4SIT_Yq7xrqEHxpjTgA4G5AeI2zBIXPDqm_1Og6U1pEePgXU-XIvJtsE2pbkQ8hsJ2PYccOKjbkFSYE/s400/teardrop-trip-Nevada4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The trip was also a nice time to enjoy our teardrops after a long, cold winter. We hiked in flooded canyons and played some late night games. We still sleep like we're dead to the world and have a few new recipes under our belts. We also ran into another teardropper with a simple trailer named the Mini GetAway.<br />

Richard Lewis, a former T@B owner and forum moderator has written a book that cover all portions of the campers. <a href="https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=0elACgAAQBAJ&source=ge-web-app" target="_blank">101 Questions About T@B, T@DA and T@G Camping Trailers</a> is selling for less than $5 on Google Play.<br />

The book not only covers the latest T@B and T@G designs, but also the older campers that are no longer being made. Lewis also answers over 100 questions about the trailers including issues with electrical, plumbing, towing, weight and modifications.tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736805201700186470.post-65441410860659284482017-05-15T10:21:00.002-07:002017-05-15T10:21:35.999-07:00Cool Tears Magazine, May 2017The May 2017 version of <i><a href="https://media.wix.com/ugd/c636a2_279b21927d704ae9ba87d3af998239cf.pdf" target="_blank">Cool Tears and Tiny Campers</a></i> is now available as a digital or print version. He builds unique campers, backyard retreats and tiny houses on wheels as well as prototypes of buildings for displaced Bay Area residents.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl3sWco3u5M9j_zXyCFe6cVmaqOSi-CkXkznMLujZFc129oIw01f0X21eYHC-IFHwbaHydOAq-KFTt937Qheu7iqgOikPLN2WyPEWyXafLyqssWe5uQe2n_sYwVnW6G1TO4CD4e76r2YM/s1600/Incubate-teardropcamper-MokshaOsgood.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgl3sWco3u5M9j_zXyCFe6cVmaqOSi-CkXkznMLujZFc129oIw01f0X21eYHC-IFHwbaHydOAq-KFTt937Qheu7iqgOikPLN2WyPEWyXafLyqssWe5uQe2n_sYwVnW6G1TO4CD4e76r2YM/s400/Incubate-teardropcamper-MokshaOsgood.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
One of his designs, <a href="http://www.mokshadesigns.net/#/incubate/" target="_blank">Incubate</a>, is for sale and the sale of this teardrop-like camper will help fund additional prototypes of Moksha's <a href="http://www.mokshadesigns.net/#/dwellings-for-the-unhoused/" target="_blank">dwellings for the unhoused</a>. Incubate is 78 square feet, 2,680 lb. and is tall enough to stand up in. The structure is built on a 12 foot long <a href="http://www.carsontrailer.com/" target="_blank">Carson</a> utility trailer and has an interesting, redwood canopy frame that can be disassembled during travel.<br />
<br />
Moksha says he was inspired by both teardrop trailers and Japanese design and aesthetics while building Incubate.<br />

Some teardrop galleys are lucky to have a little refrigerator and maybe an ice chest for extra food and drinks, but face it, we will never have as much room for food as the bigger trailers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0VchHeFpN61SM2hiOaB75OZefrY5KFp2UJSWDPZRGPRvM7MBbtC_0jIRtEaCOdM57nHnNuXulsb17TTBECvvJEsaYCcApa7LNQ6wnNYETao7aw4tOTpnlS547G_eZPKi9sYSbRwZDBDk/s1600/teardrop-snow-icechest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0VchHeFpN61SM2hiOaB75OZefrY5KFp2UJSWDPZRGPRvM7MBbtC_0jIRtEaCOdM57nHnNuXulsb17TTBECvvJEsaYCcApa7LNQ6wnNYETao7aw4tOTpnlS547G_eZPKi9sYSbRwZDBDk/s400/teardrop-snow-icechest.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Our only way to keep food cold while traveling is with our Igloo bear-proof cooler (<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Igloo-Products-00044921-Sportsman-Cooler/dp/B00Y8ASXN4" target="_blank">similar to this guy here</a>) that we lash onto our tongue cargo rack. Over the years, we have gone through numerous ways to pack as much food as possible without having our fresh eggs swimming in melted ice water with random bags of lunch meat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZ3cKVCb8bGGSdNREH4eTl2QK5KhUFR7BiYn_CcMv4-ONKNIhBLg3J0TiDG-7zrIyn-8Cd50LLiLwnevFmExb6CG6IuFXnVfsd_R6FTbVw6RwRXXU9iV5vsfUbLGPKKkL30FyQ3rW0zE/s1600/teardrop-trailer-icechest-packing1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTZ3cKVCb8bGGSdNREH4eTl2QK5KhUFR7BiYn_CcMv4-ONKNIhBLg3J0TiDG-7zrIyn-8Cd50LLiLwnevFmExb6CG6IuFXnVfsd_R6FTbVw6RwRXXU9iV5vsfUbLGPKKkL30FyQ3rW0zE/s320/teardrop-trailer-icechest-packing1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The best solution we have come up with is to use several storage containers from <a href="https://www.walmart.com/browse/home/plastic-storage-boxes/4044_90828_1230055_1230056" target="_blank">Walmart</a> to hold the food in separate compartments, while the ice surrounds the containers. This keeps the melting ice from soaking the fresh food. The top container holds fruits, veggies and other items that don't need to be very cold, while the bottom container holds meat, dairy and frozen items that tend to keep the cold items colder. The surrounding ice can hold more breakable items like beer or soda bottles.<br />

Since plastic container products and sizes are always changing, the best way to accomplish a similar setup is to bring your ice chest to the store and try to fit several containers into it. We were able to find a set of containers with handles that nested into each other. When we want to do some cooking, we will just pull out the container and carry it to the stove and our picnic table.tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736805201700186470.post-76293684289672468812017-03-29T12:55:00.002-07:002017-03-29T13:00:13.611-07:00March Cool Tears and Tiny Campers MagazineThe latest issue of <i><a href="https://indd.adobe.com/view/f601fe2d-7780-4493-857e-75d5334899d3" target="_blank">Cool Tears and Tiny Campers</a></i> is now available online and in print. These tips focus on their 25 foot Airstream Classic travel trailer, but their tips can benefit anyone who tows a camper. While most teardrop trailers under 1,500 lb. will not have brakes and won't need anti-sway bars, any way that you can be safer on the road will be appreciated.<br />
<br />
The best thing about the video is hot and sexy intro.<br />

Here are a few of my own tips for hitching up your teardrop trailer.<br />
<br />
<b>1. Stay focused</b><br />
<br />
When hitching up your camper, pay close attention to what you are doing. Don't get distracted by partners, children, pets, neighbors, your phone or another task. Focus on getting the hitch coupler fully around the hitch ball and locked down. Make sure your chains are crossed and completely hooked and locked onto the hitch receiver. Double check your wiring connections, lights and signals.<br />
<br />
<b>2. Watch your weight</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Because most teardrop trailers are on a single axle, any weight that is put too far towards the back can make the trailer fall backwards or tilt dangerously toward the rear. In addition, too much weight towards the front can make it more difficult to hitch up correctly. In fact, we will load our heaviest item (our ice chest) onto the front cargo rack after we are safely hitched up.<br />
<br />
<b>3. Double, triple and continuously check your connections</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
When you are towing, being a little OCD is a benefit. Every time we stop at a gas station, restaurant or campground, we check our electrical connections, the hitch ball and the chains. Sometimes we will each do our own check in case someone misses something. If you are a first time teardropper, having a written checklist with you is also very helpful.tinyyellowteardrophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18146256337115269302noreply@blogger.com2
