Friday Teardrop Photo
Because it's so flippin' cold in most of the country right now, I thought I would put up a little photo of summer. This is the Sunflower and the Stargazers teardrop trailer camping side-by-side at the Glory Hole Recreation Area in the Gold Country foothills of California. It must have been about 95 degrees out and shade shelters like our REI Alcove help to keep the sun off the galley area. The Stargazers' shelter was used over the top of the picnic table.
We were lucky to get this large RV campsite on a busy weekend and were able to squeeze the two teardrops and our two cars into the space. However, some campgrounds only allow a certain number of vehicles to be parked in one space, and sometimes they consider a teardrop trailer an extra vehicle. We had to convince the camp host that we were not a roving gang of trailers just looking for a place to crash and told him that we preferred to camp in the same spot as our friends so that we could share supplies and equipment.
If you're going to be camping with additional teardrops, check with your chosen campground before you make a reservation. Sometimes they will make you reserve two campsites next to each other rather than allowing you to share...no matter how small your trailer is.
Nice pic but I love cold weather (dry) camping!! I say this because since I got my teardrop I am warm, dry and cozy!! If you like - take a look - http://www.flickr.com/photos/netdep/sets/72157626824134599/ - about halfway down, I followed suit and got the Alcove at REI. I am happy with it - got a couple of wind walls too and they work great!! Since my trailer sits a little higher I am not able to use it to shelter the galley but it is nice and works great at the back of the truck which is also used as table/gear organizer!! Love the blog and can't wait for the Friday Fotos!!!! Take care and hope to see you on the road sometime!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos NetDep. I really like your side awning setup (from the photo in Memaloose, Oregon). I would love to learn more about how you made it. It could be a future TYT post. Yes, our Alcove has survived some nasty wind and rains storms and it still works great.
DeleteLove the photo & NetDep photos as well. I would like to have the info on the awning also. We'll be heading out to Death Valley sometime during the holidays & hoping for some warm weather. I've never been before but now with the teardrop & a place to sleep up off the ground I'm looking forward to.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marie. Yes, I will contact NetDep and have a post written about his design. Have a great time in Death Valley. We went down there for the holidays a few years ago and it was so beautiful. It was around 70 degrees for the first few days, but a cold wind did come through on our last day and it dropped down to about 40. So, it can get cold down there. Be sure to go check out the ghost town of Rhyolite on the Nevada side.
